Thearticlediscusses the features of mechanicalprocessing of small-diameterholesinpolymercompositematerials(PCM),inparticular,incarbon fiber andfiberglass.Theanalysis of commondefects that occurredat the inletandoutlet of the drill, includingdelamination, edginganddestruction of the wire.Experimentalinvestigation of the effectiveness of varioustypes of drillsmadeofcarbideandtoolmaterials,includingdiamond-coatedandpolycrystallinediamond. It is shownthatspecializeddrillsanddiamond-solderedcutters are usedtoimprove the processingquality, especiallyinconditions of highprecisionand the need to minimizedefects.
The dependence of processing performance on the cutting-edge configuration and cutting modes has been established. The relevance of current research on optimizing the results of the tool and the processing modes of the PCM is noted.
